Names and Faces

For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust.”
Psalm 103:14

The word anniversary is described as “the date on which an event occurred in some previous year; the commemoration of such an event on that date in following years.” The next step, is remembering that anniversary. Is that tricky? Remembering? Throughout a year, dates are marked for a reason: a birthday, a wedding anniversary (attention men!), Mother’s day, Father’s day, graduation, Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Year, and oh yeah, let’s not forget Valentine’s day which is followed by tax day. Like clockwork, these are observed by many of us, one way or another. Of course, different countries mark specific dates meant to remind the people, whether good or not so good events unique to that nation or country.

Throughout the Bible, we are taught that God reminds creation to remember events, places, actions, and people. The nation Israel was reminded of their Exodus from Egypt, their condition before and after slavery, “And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in the land of Egypt, and the LORD thy God redeemed thee: therefore I command thee this thing to day.” Deuteronomy 15:15.

In the New Testament, Paul quotes Jesus, “and when He had given thanks, He broke it, and said, “This is My body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of Me. In the same way also He took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” 1Corinthians 11:24-25

“Let the little children come to Me…”

In both passages, notice the “R” word repeated. So if the Lord shows us that these events are worth remembering, one from the past, the other in the future, therefore, if it’s important to Him, it should be learned by us to keep these in mind, to remember.

The sad reality is, we pick and choose what to remember. We’ve even been introduced to make excuses, with phrases like “selective memory, mis-remembered, mis-spoke” and a few others, all for the purpose of defending ourselves, that silly pride. But He, the Lord Jesus Christ knows that we will have “lapses“, which is why He assures those who believe in Him, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.” John 14:26

The question is, do we remember events, places, things, and yes, people along with the things they say, people whom God has put in our midst for our edification and correction? Do we remember to thank God in those instances? Or do we choose to simply make an excuse and say, “Ooops, sorry, I forgot!” We do that, we’re in bigger trouble than we think. Thus He reminds us (there’s that word again), “Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent.“Revelation 2:5

Because of these truths we’ve just reviewed, here is one way to get started to apply remembering” in my life today…in this issue, you’ve noticed names, names of family (near and far) and friends (old and new), some I have seen face to face, while others, not yet, who in the past year of 2016-2017 have been privy to my “heart journey“; included are places the Lord has allowed Nenita and I to visit during the past year.

This is my exercise in remembering, to give thanks for you, as you all remember us in prayer, for God’s work in the Philippines…and the love we received from you always. For my “new heart.” There may be some of you not included in this list, looking forward to hearing from you, thank you for understanding…like I said, I’m still exercising to remember. In all this, “I thank my God always when we remember you in our prayers…”Philemon 1:4

Hearts at Home

Where Home is…the Heart!
penned on November 29, 2016 by Nenita

It is not easy to find a house which you can make your home.

Let not your heart be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many dwelling places (or mansions or rooms in other translations); if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.”
John 14:1,2 NASB

That is a great promise deserving of praise and one that has been a guiding principle in my life…and because of this promise, once upon a time in Menifee, a house became home to me and my family as I held on to Jesus Christ and His promise.

Fifteen years ago, people gave me a quizzical look each time I told them where our home was located. Where in the world is Menifee?!?

My 2017 Birthday, grilling fresh Tilapia with Kim, who on this day got saved along with her sister Lerma, in the love of Christ.

It was March of 2003, and our seventh move in ten years when the Lord finally blessed us with our first house purchase. How can I forget! It was my 49th birthday, the 10th of March, the day we moved into the house which became home for the next few years.

Many memories flood my mind, bringing warmth to my heart because of both joy and sorrow that intertwined to grow me in faith in His grace, to be obedient which allowed me to be just His little one.

I haven’t stopped growing. In the life of going I seem to be glowing more each day as I realize, that it is not by might nor by power, but by His Spirit alone, that Christ is manifested in me in these times of growth, most of which is accomplished through difficulties. The joy of the Lord in me daily is my strength.

Fast forward to 2016…another year of living His life… this time in the heat of this beautiful country endowed with many typhoons, the Philippines! The land of my natural birth.

I moved to California by God’s design and became a naturalized citizen of this great United States of America, a land I have learned to love and cherish now, more than ever. I am a citizen of two nations big and small, and coming into a unique time in history with two new presidents who practically share the same idea of making his country great again.

Here’s a glance at a recent headline from the Asian Journal about President Duterte…read on and see if it sounds familiar.

“Stand beside her and guide her with the light that comes from above, God bless America my home sweet home.” I hum this same melody,…God bless the Philippines my home sweet home.

Like Paul, I steadily set my eyes on the goal, the upward call of God which is in Christ Jesus.

Then again, I have a third citizenship and it’s way far better than the first two. Heaven. This is my final destination and soon and very soon I am going to see the King of glory, Lord of Creation, Savior of the world, the Alpha, the Omega.

A birthday treat for me, along with Ryand, Georgie & John at Chow King

I look forward to my permanent home, a city whose Architect and Builder is God. I can’t wait to be in our Father’s House, He has prepared a room for me, for you…a place where there’s no need for the sun nor the moon because Jesus is it’s Light, where the streets are glassy gold and we’re in the company of all the saints sharing in our inheritance together.

Cathy’s birthday on March 24

For now I live in two countries, blessed with two freedoms to exercise certain alienable rights and be responsible for this privilege of possession. Yet the one freedom I can fully enjoy without limits is the freedom I have in Christ Jesus to exercise all my earthly rights, that is to limit my rights to myself that I may win some.
To Tagaytay and beyond…here, there and everywhere, my home sweet home is where Jesus is.

Considering

The Spring Semester is in full swing with three students, Cathy, Marge, and Ryan. It is always an exciting time each season to behold the beauty of God’s work here in Tagaytay…considering…
consider
“kon-sid´ẽr: In the New Testament the force of the word is brought out most vividly in Mat_6:26 (καταμανθάνω, katamanthánō), where it means to “examine closely,” as though the observer had to bend down for this purpose, and in Luk_12:27; Heb_10:24 (katanoéō, to “observe well”), while in Heb_13:7 the anatheōréō, “look up toward” or “look again at” is consistent with the reverential regard commended in the context. Used in the Old Testament for a variety of Hebrew terms, signifying inspecting (Proverbs 31:16), examining (Leviticus 13:13), giving serious thoughts to (Isaiah 1:3), it often means little more than “see” or “behold” (Psalm 8:3).” (ISBE)

There are many things to consider if we took the time to the reality of the days we are living in. Classes offered this semester include Inductive Bible Study (IBS), Theology, the books of Jeremiah / Lamentations and 1 & 2 Peter / Jude. It would seem like a random selection, but it is not. IBS is learning how to study the Bible on your own, unearthing the treasures found in the word of God; Theology has been defined to which I agree by Ryrie as “…the discovery, systematizing, and presentation of the truths about God.” These two subjects tackle the source of God’s revelation of Himself, in His Word, the Bible.

In the gospels, Jesus said, “If the world hates you, know that it has hated Me before it hated you.” Having said that…consider this…The west has veered way much to the left than the right over the last century, but has only manifested itself the last 40 years and gotten “worser and worser,” it has crept in slowly into the fabric of society. Especially since the media continue to coddle the likes of Soros, Obama, Reid who continue to spew their venomous seeds of hate, not only affecting the United States, but even to other parts of the world, including the Philippines own(DV, 3Lanes).

The book of Jeremiah and 1Peter were issued in times similar to the one we find ourselves in today, they each serve both as a warning and an encouragement. It is as Jesus said it would be, “…many false prophets will arise and lead many astray…and because lawlessness (anarachy) will be increased, the love of many will grow cold.

Jeremiah was chosen by God to point the people back to the Word of God, to return “Return, O faithless sons; I will heal your faithlessness…Why then has this people turned away in perpetual backsliding? They hold fast to deceit; they refuse to return.” Jeremiah 3:22a & 8:5; and then Peter reminds his readers, which includes us, “Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” 1Peter 1:13-16.

Therefore Consider…

This is a reality we face daily in that the Bible is being criminalized. During the time of Jeremiah, people didn’t want to hear God’s word, they wanted things that tingled their ears, make them feel good about themselves and put their lives in peril by not heeding God; then, during the days of Peter, persecution was the norm, people were faced with life or death if they confessed Jesus Christ as Lord. We Christians have been given the blessed opportunity to imitate these servants of God as they imitate the Lord Jesus Christ walking in obedience, which is where it all begins, doesn’t it?

This year will be no different, we get to press on and consider the work of God in our lives and in those around us, pressing on to His upward call. Come, join us in praise and prayer!

The Inductive Bible Study class in session includes Marge, Cathy, and Ryan. Marge and Cathy are holdovers from the “Joyful Ruthies” Women’s Bible study group Nenita started last year after my operation. One of the ladies we were expecting to join us, Lani, is not able at this time, she is pregnant with her first child. Rejoicing and praise all around indeed, keep lifting up those holy hands. Ryan is from Guilhulngan in Central Visayas, he is ea scholar via an anonymous husband and wife team from SoCal, praise the Lord.

Also, you know that we have been at our location for four years and finally last Sunday we had a Bible Fellowship with our neighbors going through Psalm 1. Be in prayer for those who joined us: Dianne and her two children, Daniela and Jinella, Lito, Imong and Ryan, God’s scholar from Negros.

At the writing of this letter, welcome the arrival of our ninth grand-child in Grande Prairie in Alberta, Canada, Jeremiah, all 7.10 pounds, 21 inches of him. God bless you Roda, great going! With the two men in her life, her newborn child and her Raymund, our son.gp3-a

Are you invested?

Just as the year started, we talked about making a resolve for 2017. Resolve as we apply it for the New Year or any time is: 1) to decide or determine firmly; and 2) to make up the mind. The opposite of having resolve may best be described as one who is double minded, in a manner of speaking one who cannot to decide to act one way.
psalms-1-1-2

In the Old Testament, we see in Psalm 119:13 the psalmist expressing his relationship with God’s word in this way, “I hate the double-minded, but I love Your law.” There is nothing more enduring than the Word of God. The Word will do what it has been set out to accomplish (Isaiah 55:11). Which brings us to the next question, what will you…will we, invest ourselves in this 2017? The two listed definitions that best applies invest as it pertains to our relationship with the Word of God are as follows: 1) to devote; and 2) to lay out with expectation of profit.

We, the collective body of Christ at “My Father’s House” resolve to continue to be invested in 2017 and beyond, into the work God has called us, to “devote” ourselves in the teaching of His Word for the equipping of the saints, for the “profit” of all.

2016 was memorable in many ways…

– In May, the Philippines, elected Rodrigo Duterte as its new President; while the United States recently inaugurated its 45th president in Donald Trump. Though located miles and culturally apart, they are connected to each other more than both men will ever acknowledge. They both have love for their respective countries, each ran on unconventional platforms that many traditionalists frowned upon, and yet the majority of the people voted for them…pray for these two men.digong-donald-110916
– I underwent a CABG and mitral valve repair, in the common lingo, a quadruple bypass open heart surgery (can it be done any other way, than opening up my chest?). A reminder, I am no longer my own…1Corinthians 6:9
– There are many more events: terrorism continues, government corruption, media bias, attacks on law enforcement, celebrities pretending to know the plight of the common man, and so on…I note only these events only because they were personal to me.

Before leaving California, this question came up several times, “How do you feel about returning to the field? (The mission field)” Interestingly, I could not offer an immediate answer that was genuine. All I know is my wife and I draw our strength from the Lord. It isn’t a matter of how I feel but will I obey and follow our Lord.
hgcc-collage

What does 2017 hold for the Bible Center?
– We are anticipating five/six students to join us in Tagaytay
– “Off-Site” teachings are being prepared by the Lord, which may include these locations, Quezon City, Santa Rosa, Montalban, even in Dasmariñas and Magallanes in Cavite.
– The Lord’s ministry at BJMP continue as the faithful resolve to be invested in HIS work. (Matthew 25:36)

The two words we have examined today, resolve and invest, are qualities we see Jesus Christ practiced when He first came, qualities He exhibited to His disciples…He had resolve, (Matthew 16:21, John 4:4, wherein He was determined to accomplish to reach as many people with His word); and He invested His life teaching the disciples, Matthew 28:20; Mark 4:2, Luke 13:10, John 7:17…

It is only fitting for us to follow His lead…being always ready to go, just as Isaiah said, “Here am I, send me (us).”

Many of you resolved to invest your time with us in prayer along with your resources to further God’s work in Tagaytay and beyond…Let us press on!

All in God’s Family

Visiting family and the brethren as expressed in the family of the church of God over the Thanksgiving and Christmas Season of 2016 has been filled with His goodness.
img_2192

Can it be realized any other way, the enormity and connectivity of the family of God? The journey of discovery began on October 27, 2016.

After a quadruple heart bypass on May 28, I was ever so thankful to God for His prayer for the people He surrounds me with, beginning with my wife, our children, doctors, and nurses, all by His appointment. In the days that followed prior to my discharge from the hospital, I had this longing to go on a long vacation and travel back to California.collagefin

To be rested…refreshed. To see family…friends. Maybe all of the above. This is that journey, one filled with relief, joy, and thankfulness with the people the Lord has used the last seven months…much like the lesson in faith I have been blessed to experience because of God’s faithfulness.

Not only that, He included stops to visit family in Folsom up in Northern California…

A stint at Lone Mountain in Las Vegas, Nevada…

Enjoying more snow with Nenita, Kim, and Dave, while dropping in on “The Second Chance Ranch” fellowship in Cascade, Montana…

To top it all off He brought us to parts of the “Great White North“(a.k.a.Canada), which included the flat plains of Grande Prairie where we got to to do a Couple’s Bible Study with our son and his wife…

Drove cross-country to behold God’s work through the views of Jasper, Banff and Lake Louise (included driving in snow), and of course Salmon Arm in Vancouver.banffYes, the people, the experiences and destinations my wife and I got to visit, are proof that God’s family is ever growing and full of beauty. Imagine the opportunity I would have missed had we not taken the first step.

Ready for 2017? Let’s go!!! “Pray without ceasing.”
