Ode to Love…

Of Today

I thank the Lord that He has you in His care each day.
He reminds me of my priorities,
why does He remind me all the time?
Throughout my day, I long to put my arms around you,
To embrace you like there is no tomorrow,

Not wanting to ever leave your side;
To feel the touch of your lips on mine;
To hear you say my name;
To have a dialogue about God;
What He has shown you, and to share that beauty with me;
And to hear your voice ask me gently,
“What is God showing you today?”;

To be able to watch you, even in sleep, with beauty and grace;
To consider what God is doing by allowing me into your life,
Our union draws me closer to His throne;

Many blessings in life, I have taken for granted;
Never again shall it be,
And yes, to be with you in blessed one-ness.
O my dearest, I thank God for you, and for His grace.

…of yore

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.

I love thee to the level of everyday’s
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;
I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.

I love thee with a passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood’s faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints, – I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life! – and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.
